The Story Behind Arsenal Events
Arsenal Events started with a shared love of running, a little bit of college track & field, and a whole lot of teamwork. Ken and Kristen met at Cedarville University while competing on the Track & Field and Cross Country teams. Fun fact: Kristen was a hurdler and high jumper who was originally suckered into running cross country to “improve her endurance for the 400 hurdles.” She was invited back for a second season—not necessarily because of her cross country skills, but because she was really good at driving the team van! Years later, that same combination of questionable decisions and good teamwork has served them pretty well.
These days, their family includes three daughters – Kayla, Kendall, and Kate – all of whom grew up running and spending plenty of time around races. (Kendall did eventually go rogue in middle school and traded her running shoes for a field hockey stick.) In 2012, Ken and Kristen started the Lewis and Clark Running Club at Lewis and Clark Elementary School, introducing elementary‑aged kids to running and leading the club for eight seasons.
In late 2019, an opportunity came along that seemed like a natural fit. The local race timer was preparing to retire, and Kristen and Ken decided to take a leap and launch Arsenal Events. Kristen brought her experience in race directing and event management, while Ken brought his computer programming skills, love of numbers and data, and an uncanny ability to make technology do what it is supposed to do on race day. Together, they made a pretty good team and Arsenal Events was born. The three girls all have played a role on race day and behind the scenes helping to keep the family business rolling.
And no, the name Arsenal has nothing to do with the soccer team! We chose the name because we wanted to represent what we bring to every event: an arsenal of everything you need to make race day happen. From registration and race management to timing, results, logistics, and all the little details in between, our goal is to be the team behind the scenes that makes race day run smoothly.
We love what we do, we love the running community, and we still think the best part of race day is seeing people cross that finish line – whether they’re chasing a PR, completing their first 5K, or just having a great time with friends and family. We’re grateful to be part of so many runners’ stories, and we can’t wait to be part of yours!
The best race days look effortless because a lot of people are working behind the scenes. Meet the team bringing the experience, energy, and attention to detail that keep Arsenal Events moving.
